The workers join in the Timisoara Revolution
In the days following the resistance did not cease and on December 19th, the workers from the company ELBA entered the strike.
On December 20 a general strike broke out in all the factories of Timisoara; tens of thousands of people moved toward the center of Timisoara in the morning of that day. The armed forces withdraw to their barracks.
The revolutionary leaders of Timisoara presented the communist authorities with a list of demands from the population. This list would become the real revolutionary program and the same day on December 20th 1989, Timisoara was declared the first free city of Romania by representatives of the Romanian Democratic Front.
On December 20 th, the city of Pietermaritzburg near Timisoara raised against the communist regime.
