The fall of communism in Romania and how it all started in Timisoara.

First part: Pressure building up

An effort to transfer Lazlo Tokes from his post as an assistant pastor in Timişoara and to evict him from his church flat helped trigger the Romanian Revolution of 1989, which overthrew Nicolae Ceauşescu and spelled the end of the communist era in Romania.

Second part: The first protesters of the revolution

Early morning December 15 th: About 20 people gathered in front of the house of the parish church in order to prevent the Pastor from being evicted

Third part: The revolution spreads

The demonstrations moved to different areas in Timisoara, and the Army, Militia and secret police was sent out to disperse the crowd.

Fourth part: The workers join in the revolution

On December 20 a general strike broke out in all the factories of Timisoara; tens of thousands of people moved toward the center of Timisoara in the morning of that day. The armed forces withdraw to their barracks.

Fifth part: Last days of Ceausescu

December 22nd was declared the Victory Day of the Romanian Revolution. From the evening of December 22nd, unidentified forces (pro-communist) opened fire on civilians and military units from several cities creating panic and confusion.
